Wayuu people
The Wayuu ethnic group can be found on the La Guajira Peninsula in the northernmost part of Colombia. Women of this ethnicity learn to weave and crochet from an early age, and the sale of traditionally woven products is a major source of income for the community. This unique skill is passed down from generation to generation. It takes them from to 2 - 4 weeks to complete each of those stunning bags. Each bag is one of a kind and the choice of colors is unique. The production of these crocheted and woven products is a cultural heritage of this ethnic group.
Our story
During our journey throughout Colombia we went to the desert area of La Guajira peninsula. This place enchanted us a lot. We were fascinated by the community life of the Wayuu people, living in harmony with nature. Within a few weeks, we befriended the local women's community, and that was the first seed for Wayana's birth. A brand that combines the traditional designs of the Wayuu ethnicity with modern elements.
